I can't believe this my last post ever in Dr. D's class. I am tearing up just thinking about it. To everyone reading this, I hope these words along with my posts throughout the year have brought happiness at times, other times sadness. I thank you graciously for all the comments and hope that everyone had as great of a time blogging as me. Thank you.
Anyway,
Macbeth has all this power, and oh boy does he take advantage of it. I think this is the most central theme of Macbeth because everything that happens in the play is because of Macbeth's hunger for power. The issue begins when Macbeth and Lady Macbeth kill Duncan so he can assume the throne, just as the prophecy said. This goes along with one of the play's themes: power corrupts. The power is the knowledge that Macbeth can do anything and he will still be king. That power corrupts Macbeth.

Macbeth Quotes

This is Macbeth speaking with lady Macbeth, and he is basically saying that he has done so much harm that it would be just as hard to try and fix them as it would be to keep killing. This foreshadows that more killing is to come, and also that something untoward may happen to Macbeth.
"Fair is foul and foul is fair"
This is the chant that the three witches sing while they make their potions, and it seems to be a central theme of the play. Macbeth blurs the lines of foul and fair many a time, and it shows us that Macbeth is willing to do anything for power.

Is your red the same as my red?

Okay, Trevor and I are really into this YouTube account called Vsauce. Vsauce is led by a guy named Michael who explores all kinds of different topics about life. These topics range from "What if everyone jumped at once?" to "Is the five second rule true?", and Michael can get pretty scientific at times. One of my favorites is titled "Is your red the same as my red?"and let me tell you, it is trippy.
Think about it. Lets say you and I are looking at a banana. We both say, "This banana is yellow" and go our separate ways. That is what we were taught as children. In a classroom, a teacher could hold up a card with the color blue on it, but there could be twenty different variations of "blue" seen through different children's eyes. Everyone assumes that they are looking at the same color as everyone else. But what if we are looking at totally and completely different colors, but have no idea! What if my yellow is the same color as his purple, and vice versa? This could also be applied to taste and possibly even hearing.

Welcome Back! I love Gossip Girl.
Wow, it sure feels great to be blogging again! Anyway, I was watching Gossip Girl earlier today, and I am at the episode in Season 2 where Blair wants Chuck to sabotage Vanessa's plans to restore an old Brooklyn speakeasy, so Chuck eases in and acts like a friend, while actually planning to destroy it. Chuck Bass, the son of billionaire Bart Bass, has plenty of money and power, not to mention nice clothes, the ability to seduce any woman he wants, and a devilish grin. However, there is a dark side to the great Chuck Bass. His mother was killed in a plane crash when he was a child, and his father is constantly jetting off to faraway countries for business. Chuck never really seems happy, even with all this power, and that is why I think that power does not give a person happiness. Dan Humphrey, a middle class Brooklyn boy, is way happier, even if if he just stays at home most nights playing board games with his family. I also think that Macbeth has power by being a thane, but is constantly worried being under a microscope. These witches are on is back all day and he has to worry about the fact that he is going to kill a king!
Also, women are not necessarily more violent than men. Most the time, men are the ones who throw punches, but women do a lot more hurt with their words. On this episode of Gossip Girl I was watching, Blair was not acting too kindly. Fashion Week was approaching, and Blair's mother was a designer. That meant that she was in charge of the seating charts at her mom's show. Normally, her best friend Serena watched the show from backstage, but Blair's mother personally asked her to sit in the front row. Serena accepted, and this really ticked Blair off. Blair changed the seating chart at the last minute, putting Serena at the back row. At the same show, Blair had another beef with Jenny, a young, aspiring designer working the show. Blair sent all the models home and made it look like Jenny's fault. Once replacements were found, Blair gave one of the models a dress that Jenny made, so it would look like Jenny was trying to take all the credit. My point is that I disagree with notion that men are more violent than women, just because we are stronger and have potential for more physical damage. In Macbeth, I know that Lady Macbeth is pretty ruthless as well, as well as those witches.

Rock N Roll McDonald's
Rock N Roll McDonald's by Wesley Willis is considered one of the best songs ever. The true art and passion within the lyrics are to be truly marveled. Repetition is a key element in the song, as the three choruses are simply "Rock N Roll McDonald's!" repeated four times. I feel that this truly gets the point across that Rock N Roll McDonald's is not to be ignored.
Rock N Roll McDonald's was a special McDonald's restaurant in the heart of Chicago, built in the 1980's. It was three times the size of a normal McDonald's, and hosted several famous artists like Jimmy Hendrix and Elton John. In the son, Wesley Willis was speaking kindly of Rock N Roll McDonald's, and didn't seem to have any problems with it. However, things take a sharp turn in the second, and especially third verses. Willis insists that Burger King is superior due to the fact that a Quarter Pounder from Burger King has 2 grams of fat less that a Big Mac, and that eating McDonald's will make you fat.
When I think of the imagery reflected in Rock N Roll McDonald's, all I see is a greasy hamburger, waiting to be eaten; waiting to ruin someone's day. Also, the firm tone used by Willis tells me that he means business, and I respect that.
If Wesley Willis' goal was to persuade people to steer clear of McDonald's and stop by Burger King, he sure did win me over. The points he makes about the fat in Big Macs are difficult to overlook, and I cannot help but to be a bit skeptical about whether or not there Willis is biased against McDonald's, but I will do further research and update accordingly.
Rock N Roll McDonald's is a true masterpiece of our time, and I think it is about time that someone recognized it. Thank you Mr. Willis and McDonald's.

Research Paper Draft-is ok i guess
I think my draft is okay, but not great. I do think that I am great at filling up countless pages with meaningless garbage and making sound like I know what I am talking about.
There was not much to it actually. I just went to noodle tools and realized that my annotated bibliography did not help me at all. I then realized that I should have made at least a single notecard, lol. I had to look back at all my articles and pull quotes from there that I guess were relevant. ? I am sure that there are a number of things that Dr. D can help me change and make my final draft the best that it can be. Right now though, I don't agree with most of the things my essay says. I go on and on about how there should be "more security". Okay, that is so weak and general. Sure there are a few good points in there, but most of it is ridiculous.
For example, I bring up "safe gun technology", which is cool, but these guns would only make up .0000000000000001 percent of all the guns out there, it is just unreasonable.
Also, why do I try and pretend like pharmaceutical companies really pay attention to "who is taking what anxiety pill" or "who has depression". Besides, they cannot legally share that with the world any way. Bottom line, I still have a lot of work to do.

My Productive Break
When the BR Blizzard was mercilessly pounding the city, I was inside my cozy home working diligently on my essay.

I procrastinated the heck out of those three days. I basically laid in bed until Thursday when I realized all the work I had to do. From noon until midnight, I was in my room doing work. I had math, science, history, I had to make churros, and the English essay that I had neglected. In fact, I didn't start until Saturday morning and and finished about ten hours ago. I also realized that I was behind on the Indian book and read that too and just did the questions for that and now I'm blogging.

Research Topic
Hey pal! Let me tell you about my NHD project. It's on school shootings in America, and how they can be prevented. I learned that it is way too easy to get guns and schools do not have enough security. Overall, I think that the government and the community needs to make a change. More laws should be passed, and there should be a bigger emphasis on protecting America's future.
My research topic is gun control today in America and how it affects school shootings. Throughout my preliminary research this year, I have realized how big of an issue this is today, especially with the recent tragedies like the VT shooting and Sandy Hook. I have learned how shockingly easy it is to obtain weapons, even with the recent crackdown last year. I have also learned that the kinds of people that commit these crimes often have some type of anxiety/depression or something along those lines. The thesis that I have formulated over these few months is that violence by way of school shootings is an issue in America today that affects many people. More laws need to be carried out that prevent guns from getting into the hands of people that are capable of committing these heinous crimes, and that protect children at school.

NHD Project
My National History Day Project is all about the second amendment (right to bare arms) and how it is intertwined with school shootings. I chose this topic because it is one of the most hot-button issues in our society today, especially with recent tragedies like the Aurora movie theater shooing, Sandy Hook, and the Boston Marathon bombings. My research focuses in on events like Columbine, Sandy Hook, and the VT shooting, analyzing different aspects of each.
You should care about this topic more than any other NHD project at EHS, or anywhere for that matter. Nothing even touches the importance of this one. What if a strange man burst into your classroom with an automatic weapon and killed you and your friends? What if in thirty years the same happens to your children. The point is, school shootings are a heck of a lot more important that fracking (sorry Norton Field Guide, you had it coming).
This week, I am checking out my sources, revising my annotations, and maybe even adding a few new ones. I will make some notecards for my topics and gain an even deeper understanding of my topic.

Tale of Two Classes
This year, English class is way different from last year. I can that Dr. D's class is definitely more enjoyable for a few reasons.
The first reason is that I like the people in my class. Of course Trev was bequeathed on me in English for both years, and of course Alyssa, Emma Scott and Lexi. But I have to say this year has got to take the cake. The camaraderie I feel with my peers in our class knows no bounds.
The second reason is that the material we cover is exponentially better that the humdrumity of 8th grade. We do so much less in the aspect of worksheets and pointless quizzes. I feel like every day I step into English class this year, I have the ability to open my mind to so much!
The last reason 9th grade English is by far better than 8th grade English is purely Dr. D. I really liked Mrs. Milligan and everything, but I feel as though Dr. D and I are always on the same page. Dr. D, if you're reading this, you're the best!
